International Mindedness

Ravenswood students come from more than 50 different cultural backgrounds and the School equips them with learning experiences that broaden their global understanding and encourage them to embrace harmony and respect differences.

We are the only school on the Upper North Shore to offer students a choice of pathways between the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) and the Higher School Certificate (HSC). The IB Diploma Programme curriculum is a rigorous, internationally recognised senior pathway, designed to provide students a balanced education including languages, humanities, science, mathematics and the arts. It increases understanding of languages and cultures and explores globally significant ideas and issues.

The Ravenswood Junior School offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), which features an inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework and curriculum. The PYP challenges students to initiate projects and take increasing responsibility for their own learning, as they explore local and global issues in real-life contexts. Students develop the agility and creativity to respond to new and unexpected opportunities and challenges. They begin to see things from different perspectives and engage in responsible action. They are encouraged to contribute to a better and more peaceful world.

As an IB World School, Ravenswood shares the International Baccalaureate World Organisation’s aim for students to develop and demonstrate international-mindedness. ‘This is a multifaceted concept or state of mind that captures a way of thinking, being and acting. Internationally minded students are open to others and to the world, and are cognisant of our deep interconnectedness.’ (IB 2017).

Ravenswood’s international focus is also evidenced by our Global Experience Program, which includes overseas academic and service tours and immersions and an exchange program encompassing Asia and the Americas, Europe and New Zealand.
